A BLOOMBERG INTERVIEW with SILVANA MUSCELLA on the EU talent shortage

Our Technical coordinator, Silvana Muscella, was interviewed by Bloomberg on the issue of talent shortage. In the interview, she says companies in the EU’s semiconductor industry are struggling to compete with higher salaries abroad. She warns that Europe is losing talent to countries like Singapore, South Korea, the US, and Canada, where salaries are significantly higher. Muscella highlights that this pay gap, combined with the physically demanding nature of chip manufacturing, makes the industry less attractive, even for qualified electrical engineers who often choose the software sector instead. To address this, the EU Chips Act allocates €43 billion to boost production and close the skills gap. Programs like the European Chips Skills 2030 Academy aim to train 500,000 experts in the next decade, ensuring Europe’s competitiveness in the global chip market.
