Uniting Europe’s Semiconductor Industry: first face-to-face workshop of the Industrial Alliance

On May 6th 2025, ALLPROS.eu hosted “Uniting Europe’s Semiconductor Industry: Networking for Skills, Value Chains and Sustainability”, a landmark event bringing together a broad range of stakeholders from policy, industry, and research under the framework of the Industrial Alliance on Processors and Semiconductor Technologies.

Unlike typical working group meetings, this event gathered the majority of the Alliance in one place — creating a unique opportunity for cross-cutting dialogue not only between working groups, but also between domains, with the active presence of representatives from the European Commission and the European Semiconductor Board. It was a moment to reflect on the achievements of the Alliance’s Working Groups on Skills, Supply Chains, and PFAS, while also setting the direction for the future.

The day opened with keynote remarks from Thomas Skordas (European Commission), who contextualise the role of the Alliance in the implementation of the European Chips Act. His intervention set the tone for a packed agenda focused on strengthening Europe’s semiconductor ecosystem.

A plenary panel discussion followed, featuring voices from both policy and industry. The discussion shed light on the strengths and challenges of Europe’s semiconductor landscape, emphasising the importance of collaboration to enhance innovation, resilience, sustainability, and the skills pipeline.

Jari Kinaret also presented the strategic role of the Chips Joint Undertaking, highlighting its  objectives and upcoming opportunities to support the industrial and research communities.

In the afternoon, participants joined parallel sessions dedicated to the three Working Groups, where they reviewed progress to date and identified next steps for joint action. These working sessions reinforced the importance of coordination and long-term commitment to achieving the Alliance’s goals.

To close the day, Gustav Kalbe (European Commission) offered concluding remarks that underscored the need for continued momentum and shared responsibility among all stakeholders.

This milestone meeting confirmed the Alliance’s critical role in driving Europe’s ambitions for technological sovereignty in semiconductors. We thank all speakers, WG co-chairs, participants, and contributors for their dedication and energy.

ALLPROS.eu looks forward to supporting the Alliance in the coming months as it continues to foster resilience, collaboration, and long-term sustainability.
