ChipNL Competence Centre Launched in the Netherlands

On December 16, the Netherlands launched the ChipNL Competence Centre, a major initiative aimed at strengthening the semiconductor industry. Supported by a €12 million budget over the next four years—jointly allocated by the European Commission and the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO)—ChipNL Competence Centre represents a collaboration between Brainport Development, ChipTech Twente, High Tech NL, TNO, JePPIX, imec, and regional development organizations.

Mission of ChipNL

ChipNL aligns with the European Chips Act, which seeks to establish Competence Centres across Europe to promote knowledge exchange, collaboration, and research. Its overarching goal is to enhance the European Union’s innovation capabilities and bolster its position within the semiconductor value chain.

The ChipNL Competence Centre unites key stakeholders across the Dutch semiconductor ecosystem, with a specific focus on semiconductor manufacturing equipment, chip design, photonics, quantum technology, and heterogeneous integration. It aims to position the Netherlands as a leader in semiconductor innovation while contributing to broader European objectives.

What Will ChipNL CC Offer?

ChipNL will provide support to SMEs, startups, and large companies by granting access to European pilot lines for testing and validating advanced technologies.

Companies will also benefit from an innovative design platform to create customized semiconductor solutions, alongside access to expert knowledge and support for leveraging high-end equipment.

In terms of talent development, ChipNL will collaborate with EU Skills Initiatives and the Microchip Talent Reinforcement Plan to cultivate a skilled workforce for the industry.

Additionally, ChipNL will assist in securing funding for innovative projects in the semiconductor sector, leveraging the EU Chips Fund to provide financial support for startups, scale-ups, and SMEs.
