Best Practice: LIST

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a European RTO focused on driving advancements across multiple disciplines, including bio and environmental sciences, materials and nanotechnologies, and IT. Headquartered in Luxembourg, LIST employs over 650 people. Up to 60% of its funding comes from Luxembourg’s Ministry of Research and Education, and the remaining budget is sourced from industrial and academic partners. This balanced funding model enables LIST to maintain strong connections to local and international stakeholders, positioning it as a hub for semiconductor R&D and talent development. The Institute focuses on commercialisation – fundamental research plays a minor role in its activities, and most of its projects exhibit a high level of maturity.
As of late 2024, LIST is undergoing internal restructuring to enhance collaboration across research themes, ultimately leading to accelerated innovation that aligns LIST’s resources with the needs of the relevant markets.
