SKILLS, SuPPLY CHAIN AND PFAS wg co-chairs at the ESB meeting

On March 18, 2025, the European Semiconductor Board (ESB) convened to discuss strategies for enhancing Europe's semiconductor industry. The ESB, was established under the European Chips Act to support the consistent implementation of the European Chips Act and to facilitate cooperation among Member States, playing a pivotal role in coordinating actions to strengthen the EU's semiconductor ecosystem.

Collaborating with the ESB is essential for the European Industrial Alliance for Processors and Semiconductor Technologies, as it aligns efforts to boost Europe's competitiveness and technological sovereignty in this critical sector. During the meeting, the co-chairs of the Alliance's Working Groups on Skills, Supply Chain and PFAS addressed the matters most pressing in the EU semiconductor industry:

The talent shortage in the semiconductor industry

By mapping existing initiatives and fostering new ones, the Skills WG aims to build a sustainable and diverse talent pipeline. Their recent Blueprint Report outlines seven actionable recommendations to bridge the skills gap. The joint effort of the co-chairs from SEMI-Europe and EIT Digital is helping the WG make strides in this endeavor.

Supply chain resilience

The Working Group on Supply Chain is assessing the current state of the semiconductor supply chain, the WG is currently identifying risks and opportunities to enhance Europe's position in the global market. Their efforts are vital for mitigating disruptions and strengthening autonomy. We commend the co-chairs from Infineon Technologies and AESEMI for steering these critical discussions.

Sustainable manufacturing

The Working Group on PFAS is dedicated to addressing the environmental challenges posed by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in semiconductor manufacturing. By exploring gaps in the literature, the WG aims to facilitate synergies between research institutions and industry to find sustainable alternatives and developing risk mitigation strategies, while maintaining both competitiveness and industry's compliance with regulations. We applaud the co-chairs from imec and ESIA for their commitment in driving innovation in this sector.

What’s next?

While more and more members join the Alliance, the Working Groups progress holding regular meetings online, to align strategies and divide the work into achievable milestones. The ALLPROS.eu secretariat looks forward to celebrating their progress in a face to face event happening in Brussel later this spring. In the meantime, we encourage stakeholders to participate actively in the regular working group meetings held via Webex, fostering collaboration and innovation across the industry.

Upcoming meetings:

WG on Supply Chain: March 26th - 10:00 to 11:00 CET

WG on PFAS: March 27th - 10:00 to 12:00 CET

WG on Skills: April 2nd - 10:00 to 11:00 CET
