Political agreement on the European Chips Act
The European Parliament and Council of Ministers agreed on the European Commission’s proposal for the EU Chips Act. The EU Chips Act aims to provide a legislative framework and funding mechanism to increase EU’s global market share in chips to 20% by 2023.
The European Commission launches the Semiconductor Alert System
The new pilot system to monitor the semiconductor supply chain is included under the third pillar of the EU Chips Act. The system will assess risks and will allow all stakeholders to flag potential disruptions.
Further investment in advanced semiconductor manufacturing in Europe
The European Commission approved State aid related to a new microchip plan investment worth €7.4 billion by STMicroelectronics and GlobalFoundries. The goal is to increase Europe's resilience in the global semiconductor supply chain.
